About Us
The Historic Camden Shag Club promotes clean, healthy music and dancing to raise awareness of a period of music and dancing that goes back to a time period of the 60's and 70's when music and dancing could be understood. Our club tries to create good clean fellowship in the communities we live.
We have our shag nights twice a month. The first Thursday and third Thursday of each month at the "Camden Shrine Club" (1379 Kershaw Hwy, Camden, SC). In 2024 we will have 7 theme nights with a meal. Each person brings a covered dish and placed on the sharing table. We always have a great meal doing this. You can check out the theme nights by going to Contact Us in the menu bar and select Layout 2 and go to the bottom of the page and click on DJ Schedule. This will give you the DJ playing schedule and all Theme Nights (Called "Name of Party").
On March 6, 2018 Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in honor of our new membership.
The Historic Camden Shag Club (HCSC) provided Armed Services music on Broad Street in Camden as the "Wall of Healing" came through Camden. This Wall is in honor of the Vietnam War Memorial and was escorted by several hundred motor cyclists. It was an honor for our club and our DJ's to do this in memory of those lost during the Vietnam War.
May 29, 2018 our first two scholarships were awarded to Gracie Outlaw from Lugoff-Elgin High School and Ryan Dabbs of Camden High School.
June 22, 2018, Shagging in the Alley was held in downtown Camden. A family friendly event that featured two of our local DJ's. We were honored by having the 2018 National Shag Dance Overall Junior Champions, Trinity Davis and Mack West. They entertained us with several "spot light" dance numbers.
In May 2019 we awarded two more scholarships. Ryan Dabbs (with a renewable scholarship) and Madison Thompson from Lugoff- Elgin School for a first time scholarship.
Our club has other charities we also support. We support "The Camden Shrine Club" and Samaritans Purse "Shoe Box Ministry". Our purpose of the choice of charities we support are all because of the youth. "Reach children while they are young and they won't stray" is our philosophy".
